PIGMENTS

PIGMENTS:

VIRDIAN:

Virdian ia a very stable and powerful cold green. It's a Chromium oxide dihydrate. Guignet of Paris patented the process for manufacturing viridian or transparent oxide of chromium in 1859. Its excellent permanence and lack of toxicity could replace all other greens, both ancient and modern.
Names for Viridian:
Alternative names: Guignet's green
Word origin: The name "Viridian" comes from Latin viridiS: green.
Non-English names:
Ø German: Chromoxidhydratgrün

Ø French: Vert émeraude

Ø Italian: Verde ossido di cromo

Origin: artificial

Chromium:oxide dehydrate

Example of use by artists

Viridian analysis spots fake Van Gogh

Vincent Van Gogh, Café Terrace at Night, 1888, Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo.
Van Gogh used for a painting only some tubes. Never all. For his masterpiece, Night terrace he used: Prussian blue and viridian and some carmine for the blue air and the door in the front. Yellows were only chrome lemon and for the orange he used the chrome lemon and geranium lake.
Studying paint compositions may give quite specific answers on ancient pigment production and adds to the armory of forensic research. Analyses on more than 90 paintings from around the turn of the 20th century (Van Gogh, Kandisky, Hodler, Klee) have revealed that the majority of samples with viridian contain a production by-product, a low water containing amorphous chromium oxide borate which is absent in contemporary viridian. In contrast to modern samples of the post-war period, earlier viridian products are associated with this process related by-product, amorphous chromium oxide borate. This pigment information is used in combination with other data for the authentication and dating of paintings.

POINTLLIST

The pointllist technique is drawing technique that uses the aplication of coloured dots to give colour and shape to the figures.
Pointllist is style of drawing that has been used by great artists of impressionism and expresionism due to its great ability to suggest and transmit emotions through the special effect it creates with is colours.
The pointllist creates an optical effect union of the very special colour since if you look at the work closely, you will almost not see the drawing but as you move away. The colours are forming their lines and the painting is shown before the eyes of the viewer.

SIMETRY

It is a quality of some shapes which some of their parts are reflections of these.
  • REFLECTION SYMETRY: it is a shape quality which is form by two halves facing each other with an axis or fold line in between as if both sides were mirrow images of each other.
  • SIMETRY AXIS: it is a line which divide a shape into two simesetic halves.Every element of the shape is reflected on the other side and at the same distance from the axis.Syimetric points are on a perpendicular line to it.
  • CENTRAL SYMETRY: it is the reflectan of an object through a paint called the symetry center.Every symetric points is an the other side and at the same distances from the center of symetry.Symetric of points are collinier with the center.
  • GEOMETRIC SYMETRY: it is a kind of symetry which follows accurarely the geometric symetry rules.
  • APPERENT SYMETRY: it is the quallity of shapes or objects which show an obvius symetry but not every point or element follows accurarely the geometric symetry rules. It happens very frecuently in nature.
  • SYMETRICAL BALANCE: It´s a way to organice parts of an image´picture or drawing so one side duplicates or mirrors the other. The opposite way is called Asymetrical Balance.

STAR POLYGONS

TRIANGLES AND PARALLELS

STEPS:

  1. FIRST YOU TAKE A PAPER AND DO A LOT OF POINTS
  2. SECOND YOU CONNECT THE POINTS AND DO TRIANGLES
  3.  IN THE TRIANGLES DO PARALLEL IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS
  4. AND YOU TAKE A COLOUR AND REPASS THE PARALLELS

TRIANGLES

SIDES:

  • EQUILATERAL: sides and vertices are the same.
  • ISOSCELES: two equals sides and angles.
  • SCALENE: three different sides.
ANGLES:

  • RIGHT. which has one right angle.
  • OBTUSE: one angle have more than 90 grades.
  • ACUTE: three vertices are acute.

POLYGONS

POLYGONS PARTS
  • SIDE OR EDGE: its of the line segments that form a polygon.
  • VERTEX: the point in which two sides meet.
  • DIAGONAL: segment line that connects non consecutive vertices.
  • PERIMETER: the path around a polygon, the addition of all its sides.
  • CENTRE: it is a point equidistant from all vertices.
  • APOTEM: line segment from the centre to the  midpoint of one of its sides.

HALLOWEEN HISTORY

Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Sambaing (pronounced sow-in). The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1.
This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Sambaing, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.
In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, Celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the Druids, or Celtic priests, to make predictions about the future. For a people entirely dependent on the volatile natural world, these prophecies were an important source of comfort and direction during the long, dark winter.
To commemorate the event, Druids built huge sacred bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities. During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes, typically consisting of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each other’s fortunes.
When the celebration was over, they re-lit their hearth fires, which they had extinguished earlier that evening, from the sacred bonfire to help protect them during the coming winter.

BASIC GEOMETRY CONCEPTS AND DEFINITION

  • GEOMETRY: is a study that represents the lines and points.
  • POINT: is a place where two lines joined. Has not dimensions, no height and no width.
  • LINE: is an object of a dimension, formed by infinite points.
  • RAY: is a line which begins at particular point and extends in one direction.
  • ENDPOINT: is the point where a segment ends or start.
  • MIDPOINT: is the point that is in the middle of a segment.
  • LINE SEGMENT: is a segment that has a begin and final.
  • STRAIGHT LINE: is a line that two points follow the same direction.
  • PLANE: is a two dimensional surface. In the space the plane can be defined by two parallel, lines, one point and the straight line.
  • LENGTH: is a measurement of something from end to end.

    DEFINITIONS ABOUT ANGLES AND LINES

  • PARALLELS: are two lines than never intersect
  • PERPENDICULAR: two lines former right angle or 90 grades angle.
  • OBLIQUE: is a line that it is not parallel and it´s a perpendicular.
  • ANGLE: are two lines when have one point common.

 CLASIFICATE ABERTURE
  • RIGHT: are two lines intersect 90 grades.
  • OBTUSE: angle has more than 90 grades.
  • ACUTE: it´s an angle former less 90 grades.
  • FLAT: this angle has 180 grades.
  • NULE: this angle don't move

CLASIFICATE TWO ANGLES

  • COMPLEMENTARY ANGLES: are two angles forming 90 grades
  • SUPPLEMENTARY: are two angles forming 180 grades
  • ADYANCENT: are angles that share one side on the vertex

THE ANGLES BISECTOR

  • BISECTOR: is a line who divided two lines in two parts
IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS ABOUT ANGLES
  • CIRCLE: set of points at the same distance to a point called centre.
  • CIRCUMFERENCE: It is the full lenght of a circle .The complete distance around a circle.
  • CENTRE: it is the point equidistant to any of the point of a circle
  • RADIUS: it is a line between the centre and the circle.
  • DIAMETER: a line segment that passees through the centre and connects two points of a circle.
  • CHORD: a line which connects two points of a circle not through the centre.
  • ARC: is a segment of a circle.
  • TANGENT: is a line touch only one point
  • OUTER: when an element doesn't touch the circumference or another element.
  • INNER: when an element is fitted inside the circumference or another element begin tangent or not.
  • CONCENTRIC CIRCLES: they are circles which different radius but place in the plane sharing the centre.
